"Col. Francis Burke: Jamie, you're a wicked, wicked lad, and harm will come to me reputation for letting you lead me to piracy!"

The Master of Ballantrae is the classic adventure tale by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson.

It is the story of two brothers—one the favorite of his father, but somewhat a black sheep, and the other the faithful, loyal son who always does his best for the family, no matter the cost to himself.

When the two brothers attempt to split their loyalties between the warring factions of the 1745 Jacobite rising, the family finds itself tragically divided.

Stevenson’s brooding historical romance—a romance in the grand style—demonstrates his most abiding theme: the elemental struggle between good and evil—as it unfolds against a hauntingly beautiful Scottish landscape.

The book has achieved immortality on the silver screen numerous times throughout the years, most notably a live-action version in 1953.

ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON (1850-1894) was a short-story writer, novelist, poet, and essayist. The author of such classics as Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Stevenson ranks among the finest and most translated authors in the world. His Treasure Island is widely considered to be one of the top 100 novels of all time.
